Every Sunday is now an Open ARRC Sunday!

Sundays Are for Free Family Fun at the ARRC

The Alex Rorabaugh Recreation Center is pleased to announce that its Open ARRC Sunday program is happening every Sunday beginning September 2018. Previously the program occurred only on the second and fourth Sunday each month. Now, thanks to a sponsorship from the Pacific Redwood Medical Group, every Sunday is an Open ARRC Sunday. All are welcome to come to the Center at 1640 S. State Street to play ping pong, pool, chess and board games in the rec center, and basketball, soccer and tumbling in the gym. It’s free and open to all community members. Children 12 and under must be supervised by an adult; 13 and up just need to be signed in and out by an adult.

Whether it is hot or rainy or smokey outside, the ARRC is cool or dry or smoke-free! The nonprofit ARRC is focused on giving kids safe and fun alternatives to keep them healthy, active and connected to their community. The goal is to open the Center as much as possible for free community use. Inclusion and prevention are a big part of the mission at the ARRC. Programs that are open to people of all abilities and backgrounds and that serve to mitigate unhealthy or risky behaviors take top priority. And with the ARRC’s location on the South side of town, where there are fewer parks and places to play, the greater frequency of Open ARRC provides more opportunities closer to home for its neighbors.

In addition to Sundays, Friday night Open ARRC continues every Friday in the gym from 8-11 pm. Typically futsal, or indoor soccer, is played from 8-9:30 and basketball is played from 9:30 – 11.
