Fire Respite at the ARRC

During the recent Mendocino Lake Complex fire, the ARRC opened its doors to evacuees, first responders and anyone in the community needing a respite from the smoke. This was especially true for families with children, with school cancelled all week October 9 - 13, kids needed a place to play and parents needed to connect with others. The ARRC Partners, including the Family Resource Center, Boys & Girls Club of Ukiah and City of Ukiah, came together to provide activities, games, share resources and enjoy free coffee. There was basketball and tumbling in the gym; arts and crafts in the Family Resource Center's space; ping pong and pool and board games throughout the rec center. Hundreds of families benefitted from this collaborative effort. Special thanks to Black Oak Coffee for providing free coffee all week; Slam Dunk Pizza for bringing us pizza; and Raley's for donating bottled water and fresh fruit. Our hearts are with all of those in our community who lost loved ones, homes and pets to the fire. Our gratitude to all of the first responders who risked their lives and worked so hard to help keep our community safe.
